Cal COP Used for Security Awareness During NBA Championships

The California Common Operating Picture (Cal COP) for Threat Awareness, powered by Haystax, was used by the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC) for event security awareness at Golden State Warriors games throughout the 2016 National Basketball Association (NBA) Western Conference Playoffs and NBA Finals. Haystax worked in coordination with the NCRIC and venue operator AEG Facilities to deploy a specially configured version of its Mobile Indicator application for field reporting and situational awareness (pictured), and provide just-in-time training to local, federal and private-sector stakeholders. Oracle Arena, where the games were held, accommodates over 19,000 fans and is located in Oakland, CA. Stakeholders deployed with app reported information from throughout the venue and surrounding area using a customized menu of activity types, including Crowd Size, Unattended Items, Disorderly Conduct and Illegal Merchandise Sales. Users were also able to see the locations of other members of their team directly from a mobile monitoring application. Inside the Oracle Arena Security Operations Center, NCRIC analysts monitored and tracked field reports, information feeds and incidents. San Francisco Bay Area public safety agencies have used Cal COP since 2009. This year alone, Cal COP was deployed at many significant large-scale events, including Super Bowl 50, hockey’s Stanley Cup Finals, Copa America, Bay to Breakers and the San Francisco Pride Parade and Festival.
